About Irvin

Irvin Hall, the Special Living Option for the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences, was built in 1925 and is one of the oldest buildings on campus. As a residence hall, Irvin is truly a 'house.' The 90-member house is co-ed by floor, which provides for a well-balanced living environment. Irvin is ideally situated in scenic West Halls. The classic red brick building is conveniently located near Pattee Library, the EMS College Buildings (Deike, Hosler, Steidle, and Walker), Recreation Hall, and the Nittany Lion Shrine. In addition, it is only a few minutes walk from the busy activity of downtown State College or from the University Golf Course.

As active members of the house, students have the opportunity to participate in social, academic, and community service activities as well as intramural sports. Furthermore, house members attend college sponsored events that enable them to establish close ties with EMS professors -- ties that are not ordinarily available to other students of the University.

Thoughts on Irvin:

"I really like the setup of Irvin; it's a lot smaller than other residence halls, so you get to know many more people in a more personal way than you could get in any other building on campus."

- Jason Beck, Spring 2020 graduate in the prestigious field of Geosciences.

"Living in Irvin Hall has changed my life. It is here that I met the girl of my dreams, made valuable connections, and learned life lessons which I will forever carry with me."

- Michael Jablonski (MJ), 2-time President and 8-ball advocate.
